Data from a pumping test will form part of the requirements for a groundwater take consent application. A step test will be required unless it is a replacement consent and a step test has been conducted within the last 10 years. A step test is a single well test which confirms well yield and it takes between 2-3 hours to complete.
In addition, a 3-day pumping test will be required in many circumstances. This is a robust test that uses observation bores.
We will ensure all consultants have a set of aquifer test design guidelines on how to carry out the test to achieve the best results. We have been working with consultants during April and May to ensure that they have the necessary information and skills to fulfil the aquifer test design requirements, with the aid of a checklist.
The documentation involved will also benefit applicants as they will be able to easily see what work has been done on their behalf.
