Environment Canterbury is the lead agency for providing effective regional government (Local Government Act 2002, Local Electoral Act 2001, Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987, Resource Management Act 1991). It is also the lead agency for over-arching regional planning (Resource Management Act 1991).
