Yes - as long as your property is zoned rural, there is no winter fire ban, or territorial authority summer fire ban for your area, or no sensitive activity 100 metres downwind or 50 metres in any other direction from your fire, and as long as you only burn vegetation (including stubble and crop residue), paper, cardboard and untreated wood.
Sensitive activities include schools, hospitals, parks, residential areas and any public amenity area or place of public assembly.
Outdoor burning on Rangiora, Kaiapoi,Christchurch and Ashburton rural properties is not permitted without a resource consent from Environment Canterbury during the winter fire ban.
The Ashburton outdoor winter fire ban runs from 1 May to 30 September. The Rangiora, Kaiapoi, and the Chistchurch Clear Air Zone 1 and 2 outdoor winter fire ban which runs from the1st of May to the 31st of August.
