Swimming in the Waimakariri River Regional Park is permitted almost anywhere, but swimming is not safe in following areas:
- downstream of the State Highway 1 bridge because of poor water quality
- in the area around the jetboat ramp and 400 metres upstream of the jetboat ramp because of safety concerns
- in areas where shingle extractors work because of safety concerns.
